Recently, Chongqing WUQI Microelectronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "WUQI"), a domestic SoC designer in the field of high-performance short-range wireless communication and edge computing, launched WQ9201, the first 2x2 dual-band high-performance data transmission Wi-Fi 6+BT Combo chip.

Adopting WUQI-proprietary RF dual-band architecture and WUQI's original low-power CMOS PA technology, WQ9201 supports dual-band concurrency (DBDC) at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and provides the leading RF and baseband performance at extremely low power consumption, achieving high throughput and stable wireless transmission. This chip has been widely applied to products featuring in fast data transmission, such as smart phones, tablets, PCs, TVs, and set-top-boxes.

Upgraded from the first generation of 1x1 DBDC Wi-Fi-6 chip, WUQI's new Wi-Fi 6 Combo chip made a breakthrough in 2x2 specifications and improves data throughput and transmission performance by times, thereby wining a broader market. The successful R&D of WQ9201 has greatly promoted the layout of WUQI STA and AP full-series Wi-Fi 6/Wi-Fi 7 chips, making a giant leap in the domestic high-end Wi-Fi chip market.

As a high-end data transmission 2x2 Wi-Fi + BT dual-mode chip, WQ9201 is on a par with chips of international first-tier manufacturers. Particularly, this chip is in a world-leading place in terms of power consumption performance, reducing PA power consumption by 30%~40% than mainstream products in markets.

Key features of WQ9201:

  • Highly-integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions. WQ9201 conforms to Wi-Fi protocols of IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, is compatible with Bluetooth 5.4 protocol stack, as well as supports BT/BLE dual-mode and BLE audio. At the same time, the chip supports flexible Wi-Fi/BT coexistence.

  • With self-developed RISC-V CPU, WQ9201 adopts WUQI-designed dual-frequency RF circuits, and is integrated with high-performance PA/LNA, supporting up to 80 MHz bandwidth, 1024QAM modulation mode, and a maximum PHY rate of 1.2 Gbps.

  • WQ9201 supports OFDMA, 2x2 UL&DL MU-MIMO, and OFDMA+MU-MIMO, greatly increasing the number of terminals allowed for simultaneous access, effectively reducing communication delay, and improving access experience.

  • WQ9201 supports DBDC at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Taking advantages of WUQI-designed DBDC architecture, the chip supports high-performance concurrency modes of STA+AP, STA+P2P GO, and STA+P2P GC, improving user experience.

In terms of the competition pattern of the high-end Wi-Fi chip market in China, foreign chip manufacturers have seized most market share, and the majority of domestic manufacturers are still in the R&D stage. In this context, the launch of WQ9201 injects new impetus into the development of high-end Wi-Fi chips in China, and technological innovations of this chip advance the booming of the domestic industry chain of high-end Wi-Fi chips.
